Water Analysis About Our Products Spa Care Troubleshooting Spa Safety Where to Buy
Thursday November 20 2008

Algae problems sometime occur in spas, especially outdoor ones. Algae are tiny microscopic plants that are deposited in your spa by rain, wind and fill water. They thrive in sunlight and warm water, so your spa makes an ideal environment for algae growth.

If allowed to grow unchecked, algae infestations make the water murky and can increase the chlorine demand. One ounce of water can contain millions of algae cells before they are visible. By the time you see them, they are already clogging the filter, and reducing water circulation and the effectiveness of spa treatment products.

The best preventative is a regular maintenance treatment with a general algaecide such as SpaTime® Algaecide. Use it according to label directions.
